A journalist for nearly a decade, I started at the Bozeman Daily Chronicle on Dec. 31, 2007 (the original erroneous post said I started at the Chronicle on Dec. 31, 2008), taking up the call of crime reporting in the spring of 2009.
While reporting on crime, courts and public safety, I come across stories that don’t make it into the paper because they aren’t really “news” — tales of grief, of frustration and even sometimes ones that renew my faith in humanity.
There are also moments of levity even in some of the most sobering of situations.
This blog chronicles some of those stories.
I also use this venue to clarify law and justice issues that would take up too much space in the newspaper and would likely not be of interest to a wide spectrum of our readers.
You can also follow me and Gallatin Valley’s daily crime and courts news updates, including an excerpt from the Chronicle’s widely-read daily police logs, on Twitter @jodihausen

Sat. Oct 16th I broke my ankle on the shields river and had to be rescued! I want to thank All the people that where involve and helped get me off the river and to the hospital, Everyone was very caring and thoughtfully. I think there where about 12 or 13 people involved in the rescue and it took them about 1 1/2 hrs. to get me stable and to the ambulance, after the rescue I told the officer that I was about to crawl out and I figured out I was probably hallucinating and should stay put. Thanks for helping Guys! you can reach me at 406-579-3217 hope to here from you soon Jerry Dye
